Perry is a Chicago native birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of her two appearances on Roseanne. However, her parents did not let her perform until she reached the age of adulthood due to the impact stress might have on their daughter. She played the role of the younger Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off series of CBS's The Big Bang Theory was another portrayal by her younger mother. The actress was chosen for the role despite having a close familial connection to the character.
